5 Facts about Dog’s Teeth

Looking after our pet pooches is so important to understand everything there is to know about them including their gnashers so here is 5 Facts about Dog’s Teeth!

1. Puppies have 28 teeth – 14 on the top and 14 on the bottom. These come in at about  3-4 weeks of age. Puppy teeth—also known as deciduous teeth or milk teeth—work much like an adult dog’s teeth but on a smaller scale.
2. Like humans baby teeth, dogs have puppy teeth that will fall out and be replaced with adult teeth. Having two sets of teeth in their lifetime. Most puppies lose their puppy teeth around the age of 4-5 months.
3. As adults, dogs have 42 adult teeth – 20 on the top and 22 on the bottom. while most people have 32. In comparison, and adult cats having 30 teeth.
4. Dogs’ permanent teeth include incisors (for nipping and biting), canines (for tearing and shredding), as well as premolars and molars (for crushing and grinding).
5. Dogs use their teeth both as weapons and as tools for eating food. While the makeup and chemical structure of dog teeth is similar to those of human teeth, the size and shape of dog teeth are where the biggest differences come into play.
